On the evening of 26 March, we had the honour of welcoming our charity partners from the North East to our newly redesigned event space at our Newcastle office. This event was a celebration of the valuable relationships we've built —some over many years and others more recent—with charitable organisations in the North East. It was a chance to express our gratitude for the incredible work our partners are doing to support local communities, whilst fostering new connections and friendships. The evening began with insightful introductions from Michelle Foster, Head of P&I Claims UK Lead - Americas, UK & Ireland, and Wilf How, CSR Chairperson. This was followed by an engaging panel discussion on the theme of creativity in the charitable sector, with Mark Butcher and Rachel Spencer from Ngage NE Ltd, Jane Hogan from St Oswald’s, and Kate Gray from The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts. We are also pleased to announce that our event space is available for use by our charity partners, free of charge. If any of our partners are interested in using this space, please feel free to get in touch with us. A big thank you to all who attended and for your continued dedication to making a difference in our communities.

The first panel discussion: Wording Matters in a War, Rupert Banks (NorthStandard) alongside Julien Rabeux (West of England P&I Club), Anders Hovelsrud (DNK) and Kirill Patyrykin (Sun Marine & Trading) touched on why crafting precise insurance clause language is critical to ensure policyholders receive the intended coverage. In the next panel discussion: Dealing with Oil Spills and the Impact of Dark Fleet/Sanctioned Ships, Benjamin Seow (NorthStandard), alongside James Tan (Oil Spill Response), Richard Johnson (ITOPF), and Toby Stephens (HFW) covered how recent close calls in the marine sector have underscored a critical vulnerability: potential major pollution from sanctioned cargo or vessels due to inconsistent checks.
