Review
The best kind of books offer the reader an adventure within its pages and the best kind of adventure is one that leads to something new. Georgina has skilfully created a wealth of fantastic fresh ideas that act like a much-needed map guiding us towards a deeper understanding of who The Unique Child truly is and how play with all its magic can show them the joyful gift of being a reader and a writer. ― Greg Bottrill, childhood advocate and author of "Can I Go And Play Now?
Well done Georgina, another brilliant book for playful parents! It's so refreshing to see lots of ways to practise those essential early reading and writing skills in fun and active ways! This will be such a helpful guide for so many of us wanting to give our children the best start in life. ― Claire Russell founder of playHOORAY!
This is a unique and seemingly never-ending supply of fun filled ideas to develop our children as readers and writers. Durrant has cleverly provided us with the go-to manual for those who wish to enthuse and empower children in their literacy journey. ― Chris Dyson- Headteacher Parklands Primary School and Author of ‘Parklands: A School Built on Love
When I was reading this book, what struck me immediately was the sheer depth of Georgina's knowledge on how to support reluctant readers. Since being lucky enough to have 'early access' to this book, I have found myself recommending it to other professionals, parents and carers alike! ― Dr Helen Ross, trustee of the British Dyslexia Association, dyslexic dyslexia expert and educational consultant

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 January 2023Just like Georgina's previous book ('100 ways your child can learn through play') 'How to boost reading and writing through play' is jam-packed with activities and ideas that are fun and educational, while also being fully adaptable for all ages and abilities, and easy enough to do with resources found in the home (and outside!)
As you can see from the list of contents (pictured), there's a huge variety of activities to suit your child's interests, so it's possible to simply modify the way your child is already playing, and "trick" them into learning without realising it!
The illustrations are amazing and I love the simplicity of the layout - it's so easy to simply pick up, flick through and choose an activity. The checklist at the bottom of each page is great for focussing on particular skills (motor skills, emotional regulation, problem-solving, numeracy etc).
I have already recommended this book to fellow parents and my son's preschool (who were very excited at the prospect of so many new and imaginative ideas!)
Essential addition to family homes, childcare settings and schools ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 December 2022Bought two as I know it will make a fab gift but I wanted one for myself. The first book was full of great ideas and I’ve already seen lots of activities in this second book I’d like to try with my 4 y/o to help her get excited about learning before starting school. I like the simplicity of the activities- no need for lots of prep- which are still fun and super imaginative.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 November 2022I love the way that Georgina always promotes play through learning. Children learn through play, that includes learning to read and write. Georgina's book provides lots of different and creative ways to get your children wring and reading through games and activities that children love over and over again!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 November 2022A lovely, well written book full of brilliant playful ideas! The activities are explained fully, really clear to read and linked to key areas of development and skills. The book also includes some information about SEN, which is so often overlooked in some books, a great read, can highly recommend!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 November 2022Received your latest book. My eldest daughter is nearly four and this book is helpful for me to ensure I don’t make learning a chore as she gets older. Thank you, I’m glad I pre ordered it. It was a great surprise when it came through x
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 November 2022Another great book that has some lovely ways to make learning fun. My 5 year old can sniff out a ‘learning opportunity’ and avoids it… he played for several days on one of the ideas in the book. It might have been about encouraging writing but it also encouraged communication, understanding the wider world and just a lovely chance to play together, laugh and have fun!
