  • The merits of GP stakes investing are already well understood by many institutional investors in the private markets. We believe the strategy is about to gain traction among a broader investor base too. Why now? “We are now at a point where the industry has close to two decades of track record to share,” explains Robert Hamilton Kelly, our global co-head of Petershill strategies, in a recent interview with Private Equity International. “Prospective investors are looking at data and not projections, which is clearly very helpful when explaining what this strategy has to offer.” The strategy, which makes private equity investments in alternatives firms, also offers the potential of both income and capital appreciation – a distinctive combination. “That is what makes this strategy different and what makes it so attractive,” Robert adds. • Investors are increasingly drawn to private credit, and many are looking to Asia as a destination for capital deployment. At our recent Asia Pacific Alternatives Summit, we hosted over 600 delegates across Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul, Sydney and Singapore for discussions on the evolving dynamics of alternative investing. “Many of my client conversations focus on private credit these days,” said Matt Gibson, global head of our Client Solutions Group, “yet I still find many investors under-allocated.” Investor interest in private credit is not only strong but also expanding geographically, with a notable focus on Asia. Speakers at the Summit discussed the potential opportunities in the region’s maturing market, which may offer new avenues for direct lending in key growth areas and specific industries. We believe a nuanced understanding of local markets and the need for careful due diligence is critically important when evaluating private credit investments in Asia. Thank you to all those who attended.

  • It was a pleasure to welcome clients to our annual conference in the Netherlands where we explored key macroeconomic trends and the power of data in AI, with insights from James Ashley and Hania Schmidt, CFA. We also delved into the evolving sustainability landscape, and had the pleasure to hear Lieutenant General Elanor Boekholt-O'Sullivan’s inspiring perspective on the importance of resilience and leadership. In a discussion about biodiversity investing with Campbell Watson from IBM Research, and Sebastiaan Reinders, Sarah Lawlor commented, “a key step is improving how we identify both risks and opportunities related to biodiversity within public markets. This involves building analytics tools to identify both risks and opportunities within public portfolios, expanding investment solutions, and fostering partnerships with technology leaders to advance knowledge.” Read more of our views on making biodiversity investing actionable: http://ms.spr.ly/6046qiqg0

  • “Global investors, both on the institutional and on the high-net-worth side, are continuing to increase their allocation of their capital into the private space,” said Marc Nachmann, global head of Asset and Wealth Management at Goldman Sachs, in a recent interview with Bloomberg in Australia. Private credit and secondaries have been of particular interest over the last couple of years, he added. Looking ahead, Marc believes “the boundaries between the public and private markets will become softer and we’ll see more of a continuum between the two markets”. Marc also discussed how we continue to serve our clients in Australia, where he is currently attending our Asia Pacific Alternatives Summit, which takes place this month in five cities across the region.
