Amateur and professional artists bring light and colors to Abu Dhabi International Airport.
To meet growing demand, Abu Dhabi Airports has begun construction on the Midfield Terminal Complex. The construction of the MTC is a key element of the broader Midfield Complex, which will include cargo and catering facilities, utilities and related infrastructure. In its first year of operation, the planned capacity of the facility is to reach 30 million passengers. The MTC is destined to become the primary gateway for airlines operating to Abu Dhabi, and the future home of Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE. The Midfield Terminal Building, which will be completed in the third quarter of 2017, is the key component of the MTC development programme at the airport, and will contribute to the long-term success of the aviation sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi International Airport is one of the fastest growing airport hubs in the world currently serving over 93 destinations in 54 countries, and within the next few years, over twenty million passengers are expected to use Abu Dhabi International Airport as their origin, destination or transit point for international and domestic flights. Currently under way is the multi-billion dollar re-development and expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport designed to increase the overall capacity of the airport to more than 40 million passengers per year. As part of this redevelopment, a second runway and a third terminal have been completed.
Abu Dhabi Airports is the owner and operator of five of airports: Abu Dhabi International Airport, Al Bateen Executive Airport, Al Ain International Airport, Sir Bani Yas Airport and Delma Airport. Abu Dhabi Airports also supervises airport services offered by several long-standing partners and has established Free Zones tied to its international airports. In 2009, Abu Dhabi Airports also established the Gulf Centre for Aviation Studies (GCAS) to lead the development of the aviation industry in the UAE and the region. Through developing highly qualified aviation professionals, GCAS offers students on-going training programs for sectors of the aviation business including airlines, airports, cargo management, regulatory/civil aviation bodies, safety and security, and aviation law.
Al Bateen Executive Airport in Abu Dhabi is the only exclusive private jet airport in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The airport enjoys a strategic position within reach of major businesses and leisure facilities, as it is located in the heart of Abu Dhabi City, only five minutes away to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), 15 minutes to the Yas Island Formula One race track, and just a 50 minute drive to Dubai. Al Bateen Executive Airport currently has a stand capacity for up to 90 private jets, with fast and efficient turnarounds, no holding patterns and short taxi times; however, Abu Dhabi International Airport has begun a multi-million dirham upgrade of the facilities in order to meet the increasing needs of the private and business jet market within the region.
