About The Cheese Tasting Company

Meet cheesemonger and author Ned Palmer.

'The UK’s leading expert on cheese’, Ned Palmer is the author of the Sunday Times bestseller A Cheesemonger’s History of the British Isles, (2019), a Times Food and Drink Book of the Year 2020.  His latest book, A Cheesemonger's Tour de France  (2024) won the John Avery Prize at the André Simon Awards in 2025.

Ned began his career in cheese at London’s Borough Market in November 2000, after tasting a piece of cheese so good, it was life-changing.

In 2002 he joined the great British cheese shop Neal’s Yard Dairy where he worked on the retail counter, looked after cheeses in the cellar, visited and made cheese with British and Irish cheesemakers.

In 2014 he set up The Cheese Tasting Company to offer tastings to corporate clients and to advance the cause of proper good cheese.

With twenty-five years’ experience, Ned uses his expertise and his relationships with artisan producers from Britain and the Continent to hand-pick the cheeses and create your perfect bespoke event.

When not talking or writing about cheese, he still travels around Britain and the rest of Europe visiting cheesemakers, hearing their stories and tasting their cheeses to bring the best and most fascinating examples to share with you and your friends.

Vive la France!

Winner of the John Avery Prize at the André Simon Awards, 2025

In A Cheesemonger's Tour de France, Ned Palmer travels to eleven regions, meeting the remarkable cheesemakers who preserve France's greatest patrimony, its treasured cheeses. As he explains the mysteries of terroir and why each of those different varieties taste as they do, he shows that a French cheeseboard offers genuine insights into la Belle République.
