Artificial Intelligence is already transforming how we live, work and do business. That’s why, through the Mayor’s Growth Plan, we’ve announced a £10m investment to give every adult in the West Midlands access to free AI training. News and updates on how we're building a better connected, more prosperous, fairer, greener and healthier West Midlands.
About us
These are exciting times. Growth is strong and optimism is high. Our region is at the forefront of change and we are the place to be in the UK. West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has been created to deliver an ambitious plan to drive inclusive economic growth in the West Midlands region and build a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous population. Made up of 18 local authorities and three Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and chaired by the Mayor of the West Midlands, WMCA is working together to move powers from Whitehall to the West Midlands and its locally elected politicians, who know this region best. This is a place determined to make its mark, and it is succeeding. The West Midlands’ magnificent past drives the region’s future. Its cities are built on industry and are now perfectly positioned to re-invent the industrial revolution for the future. This is a place built on social connection, collaboration and progress. Key priorities include transport; productivity and skills; housing and regeneration; industrial strategy; finance and investment and public service reform. We are a region on the move. Our time is now.

13,000 employer pledges. Thousands of futures transformed. Daniel from Erdington spent 6 years working as a chef before health issues forced him to step away. A year of unemployment followed, until he joined the WMCA-funded Path 2 Apprenticeship with Performance Through People. Now he’s a manufacturing apprentice at Rotadex Systems Limited - building skills, confidence, and a future in engineering. This is what investing in people looks like. And why the WMCA is working towards 20,000 youth training and apprenticeship opportunities across the region.

🏏 More than 70 children had a once-in-a-lifetime chance to play on the same ground as their cricketing heroes at Edgbaston Stadium. Sunday’s Skills Blast, run by Warwickshire Cricket Foundation, showed how grassroots sport builds confidence and opens doors to careers in our growing sports sector. WMCA is proud to support programmes that build skills, drive inclusion and inspire the next generation. 💪

The UK’s first inclusive Augmented Reality (AR) storybook? Made right here in the West Midlands 👏 💡 Stourbridge-based MIXD Reality is exactly the kind of innovation we’re backing through the West Midlands Growth Plan - where creativity meets tech to power jobs, skills and future industries. 📕 Their cutting-edge platform turns any illustrated book into an AR experience, transforming how children learn and read. 🗣️ “We sit at the intersection of publishing and technology,” said CEO Pamela Aculey. “We’re a tiny team with huge ambitions and we can see how this tech can be used across multiple industries.”
