The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is conducting research into how directors and company secretaries perceive
Section 172(1) of the Companies Act 2006, and its effect on decision making and long-term value creation. The purpose of this survey is to build the evidence base to better understand the impact of Section 172 and the associated reporting obligation (for large companies) to prepare a Section 172 statement.
Why should you take part in this research?
By taking part in this important research you will have the opportunity to have your voice heard on matters related to section 172(1) and reporting. The responses you give will also help to inform the evaluation of 'The Companies (Miscellaneous Reporting) Regulations 2018' which introduced the Section 172(1) statement. Your responses will also inform the
ongoing review of non-financial reporting. We are seeking a range of views, including those from directors, secretaries, lawyers, accountants, and anyone else who has knowledge and experience of Section 172.
What will the survey cover?
The survey will ask you a series of questions about:
- Your awareness of Section 172(1)
- Your views towards the duty of Section 172(1) and the disclosure of the Section 172(1) statement (where relevant)
- The impacts of Section 172(1) on decision making
How long will the survey take to complete?
The survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes and can be completed in multiple sittings.
If you close the browser and re-open the survey in the same browser you will be able to continue from where you left off if you have not already submitted. If you submit a response and decide you would like to re-submit, please use the same link - we will use the latest response.
The survey will be live until:
30/05/2025
