The Hospital Transfer Pathway (also known as the Red Bag and eRedBag Scheme) was developed to help people living in care homes receive safe, quick and effective treatment should they need to be transferred from a care home to a hospital. The pathway is designed to support care homes, ambulance services and local hospitals to meet the requirements of the NICE guidelines [NG27]; and to support the transition between hospital settings and care home settings for people living in care homes. What is the Red Bag? The Red Bag is a physical red bag that accompanies the resident to hospital in an emergency. It contains key paperwork, medication and personal items, and is handed to ambulance crews by care staff. What is the eRedBag? The eRedBag means that key paperwork can now be sent electronically. It’s faster, more convenient and safe and secure. Watch our video to find out more.
