After a successful career in retail management, Billie-Jo Wales, a mother of 2 and a Newham resident, looked at a new career path that offered structure, flexibility, and long-term opportunities. In May 2024, Billie-Jo began her apprenticeship as a Document Controller on one of our sites secured through Evolve Apprentices, taking her first steps into the construction industry with a role on the Custom House Kickstart project. By March 2025, she secured a new position with Orchards Plumbing at Vincent Street, Newham, and in just a short time, she's gained experience in: ✔️ Site documentation and material ordering ✔️ Plumbing systems and technical processes ✔️ Leading site tours and adapting quickly to on-site demands “Before this, I thought construction was a man’s world — but now I’ve seen female crane operators and tradeswomen doing it all. Sarah Boyce steps into the role of Head of Sales for the South West and Southern divisions. Sarah brings invaluable local knowledge just as we expand our presence in and around Bristol, with key projects underway in Clifton, Southville and Spike Island. We are thrilled to receive planning permission on one of London’s most ambitious regeneration projects, delivered in partnership with Poplar HARCA 🏗️ This £800 million regeneration marks a new chapter for the Teviot Estate in Poplar, East London, ensuring meaningful resident engagement and consultation from the very start, rooted in partnership, trust, and community leadership. At the heart of every Hill project is a simple belief: we build places where people and communities can thrive. That spirit was in full swing at a recent day of community engagement at the New Era Estate in Hackney, where we enjoyed getting to know our neighbours in a relaxed atmosphere and even a few memorable moments with our mascots, Jack and Jill. The day was a chance to connect with local residents, listen, and share what’s ahead as the estate enters a new chapter. In partnership with Dolphin Living, we are redeveloping the estate to deliver 208 new homes and improved retail space, replacing the original 1930s buildings with high-quality, modern living designed to support the community for generations to come. At Dagenham Green, in London's trendy East, #TeamHill is looking ahead to build a future that reflects the strength, identity, and history of this storied community. As part of the project's commitment to place and memory, artist Ruth Ewan has been commissioned to create a permanent public artwork that reflects the spirit of Dagenham's past and the community shaping its future. Working in collaboration with Peabody and UP Projects, Ruth will create a piece inspired by the extraordinary women behind the 1968 Ford sewing machinists' strike, a decisive moment in the fight for equal pay and workers' rights. The artwork will sit central to Dagenham Green’s public realm, shaped in close dialogue with the community through workshops and events, ensuring the voices of local women are part of the process from the outset. This is just one part of the wider vision for Dagenham Green, where over 3,500 new homes, 45% of which will be affordable, will sit alongside green spaces, play areas, community infrastructure, and a rich heritage trail. We're privileged to work with partners who share our belief that every new neighbourhood should honour the people and stories that came before while offering space for the next generation to thrive. Our commitment to building goes beyond bricks and mortar; it’s about supporting people and creating pathways into construction. A recent work experience programme at Barlby Road, Ladbroke Grove, was a brilliant reflection of that. 11 Kensington & Chelsea students from West London College gained first-hand insight into the wide range of opportunities that exist in our industry, from architecture and carpentry to plumbing, electrical, and site management. A big thank you to our Social Value and Community Manager, Emma Gladwin, for leading the week and to everyone who made it possible.
