TOKYO -- Asian nations will seek to lessen the economic impact of natural disasters in the region by sharing insurance know-how through a platform that goes into full swing as early as next month.

The SEADRIF initiative -- short for Southeast Asia Disaster Risk Insurance Facility -- is being revamped into an international organization by ASEAN+3, which consists of Association of Southeast Asian Nations members plus Japan, China and South Korea. It will have its own staff.
